After the initial Ice Cream Sandwich coated tease in regard to the Adam II, Notion Ink had announced that their next generation tablet will contain silicon from Texas Instruments, instead of Nvidia s all conquering Tegra series of CPUs but in a new blog post explains the reasons behind the switch. Notion Ink explains that the theoretical performance gains of the Tegra were impressive, but the Notion Ink engineers believed that they could pump out more juice from the Texas Instruments OMAP 44XX series of chips. Alongside this, Notion Ink will also pack in the Texas Instruments Wi-Link 7.0 and Phoenix audio gear onto its ICS powered delicacy. Another reason to the switch to Texas Instruments silicon is the fact that many of the engineers working at Notion Ink are former Texas Instruments engineers who helped develop the OMAP chipset. Perhaps Rohan Shravan and Co. want to bank on that technical advantage, but it remains to be seen how the tablet will fare against its mighty Tegra 3 rival from nVidia, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and Samsung Exynos 5250 competitors. Remember the OMAP 44XX series is a current generation chipset while the Tegra 3 is the first Quad-Core ARM based chip only recently released, while the Snapdragon S4 and Exynos 5250 are still in the pipelines and will be based on ARM’s latest Cortex A15 platform.
