Just last month, we saw a make-it-yourself smartwatch that let us customize the wearable on your whim. Now, a new crowdfunding project has emerged that has made a build-your-own laptop kit. London-based startup company Pi-Top has built a RaspBerry Pi laptop, that can be created with the help of instructional manuals, by any novice. The company provides a comprehensive kit that costs $249 which includes different components that are essential for building a fully functional Pi-powered laptop. The company’s latest Raspberry Pi Model B+ is built with beginners in mind. The project is aimed at teaching beginners about building electronics, and the creators have launched the kit that is available at an ‘accessible’ price to enable anyone to build a fully functional laptop computer. The kit itself, as mentioned above, costs $249 with a motherboard or $200 without it. The company hopes to begin shipping in May 2015. The kit includes the Raspberry Pi board and case as well as a battery with over six hours of power on a single charge, Wi-Fi antenna for connectivity, a fully integrated laptop keyboard with track-pad, a 13.3in 1366×768 HD TFT LCD screen and the latest Raspbian OS.
With this Raspberry Pi Laptop project, the founders want to encourage people to build their own hardware projects in the future. So far in two days since launch, the project has reached $42,243 on crowdfunding site Indiegogo, representing 53 percent of its goal of $80,000.
