For the ease of the travelers on basic feature phone, online travel portal MakeMyTrip has launched an SMS-based bus-ticket booking service which will enable the feature or entry-level phone users to reserve a bus ticket via SMS. To use the service customer will have to send an SMS with information details like name of the starting as well as destination place, date of travel and number of passengers etc. The SMS should be sent in this pattern: @mbus <From-City> <To-City> <Date-of-Travel> <No.of Passengers> to 9664896648.
The company will then allow users to choose from bus operators according to the mentioned day and route. After the users give the required information to MakeMyTrip, the company will respond with template to provide the details and names of the travelers along with a template to make payments using IMPS. These IMPS transaction details will be used in payment processing. MakeMyTrip will thus send an eticket in the form of an SMS along with an email. This SMS will be considered as an e-ticket.
According to the company, the services will be applicable for over 1,300 operators and more than 12,000 routes across India including the inventory for Punjab Roadways, GSRTC, Goa and Bihar Road Transport Corporation and Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.
