Payment gateway operator Oxigen Wallet announced a tie-up with Indian cafe chain Café Coffee Day (CCD) today. Coffee enthusiasts will now be able to pay at CCD outlets using the Oxigen Wallet mobile app. In a bid to promote this new payment method, CCD has also rolled out a ‘buy one get one free’ offer on all beverages. The Oxigen Wallet mobile app is available for Android, iOS and Windows users for free download.
With this tie-up, CCD becomes the first brick and mortar retail outlet, to offer a digital wallet payment method. So far, we have seen many online e-commerce sites and cab services like Meru using digital wallets in India.
From today, you can pay for your beverages using the Oxigen Wallet app from your phone. The app will generate a six digit one time password that you will share with the retail outlet cashier. The cashier will then enter the OTP in his system and deduct the money from your wallet directly. You will be intimated through an SMS about the amount deducted and the balance that remains in your wallet. To fill your Oxigen wallet, you will need to walk into one of the 14,000 trade partners of the company (Croma, The Mobile Store, Planet M, Vijay Sales, Vishal, Muthoot Finance are some of them) and use a credit or debit card to load money into the digital wallet.
CEO of Oxigen Wallet, Ankur Saxena feels that the country’s youth is adopting new services and technologies at a rapid pace and such offline retail associations for payment acceptance will make digital wallets a ‘user habit’ much faster.
Oxigen Wallet is a peer-to-peer money transfer app that allows you to send and receive money through social channels like Facebook , Whatsapp and Twitter. Oxigen Wallet also enables you to instantly send money to any mobile number or bank account in India.
The company claims that over three million people in the country are doing over one lakh transactions a day using Oxigen Wallet. The wallet is accepted at 3,000 merchant locations, out of which 2,000 are online sites like eBay.
