ZTE s sub-brand nubia was expected to launch the Z17 mini smartphone on March 21. The company instead launched the nubia M2, M2 Lite, and N2. The nubia Z17 mini smartphone has been anticipated to be the company s first smartphone with a dual-camera setup. Nubia has now sent out media invites for an event to be held on April 6, which carries an image hinting at dual-camera technology, GSMArena reports. It is now suspected that nubia will unveil the Z17 mini at this event. The highlight of the nubia Z17 mini would be its dual-camera setup, which is rumored to be a pair of 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 sensors at the rear. Up front, the smartphone is said to house a 16-megapixel selfie camera. There is no information however, on how the dual-cameras would work, and what camera features the smartphone would come with.
Speaking about its design, the nubia Z17 mini has been spotted on Weibo, TENAA and an alleged image of the smartphone has also been leaked. The alleged leaked image showed the smartphone in white color, and sporting thin bezels. The smartphone houses a pill-shaped home button, which is expected to double up as a fingerprint sensor. This would also make the Z17 mini the first nubia smartphone to feature a fingerprint sensor on the front. The TENAA listing also revealed images of the suspected Z17 mini. However, the smartphone here featured the fingerprint sensor at the back, and was clad in a full metal body.

As for the remaining specifications, the nubia Z17 mini is expected to feature a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display. The smartphone is rumored to launch in two variants in terms of RAM and processor. One variant of the nubia Z17 mini will come with 4GB of RAM and will be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 652 chipset. The higher variant of the nubia Z17 mini is said to come with 6GB of RAM and will be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 653 chipset. Both the variants are expected to come with 64GB of onboard storage. For connectivity, the nubia Z17 mini is expected to come with a USB Type-C port. The smartphone could be powered by a 3,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The TENAA listing shows that the smartphone will be powered by a 2,930mAh battery, and will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Although the media invite hints at an April 6 date, there s currently no official word from ZTE or nubia. It could very well be a launch event for an entirely different smartphone.
