Users have taken to Reddit and Apple s support forums to complain about this issue. There doesn t seem to be any clear reason for this issue, and Apple hasn t put out any official statement either. The folks at 9ToMac were first to report about this issue. Also Read - iPhone selling in LG stores? Apple is apparently in talks for a new deal
One user on Reddit complained about how his iPhone X camera lens had developed a crack even when the device was always in a cover and never been dropped. The person also raged about how Apple asked him to pay the entire amount to get the device replaced. Went to Apple Store this morning and was told to pay a whopping $549 to have it fixed, he wrote.
Some users speculate this crack could be due to extremely cold weather, but that was refuted by another user. My X also has a small crack in the camera glass. Phone has never been dropped, never been out of the case and, I live in Hawaii, so not even cold weather. Phone is two months old.

It seems strange the camera lens with sapphire protection would develop cracks without any obvious reasons. While many users claim that their device hasn t been dropped, a crack could develop for other reasons too. For example, if the phone is kept in a pocket with keys or coins, they could potentially damage the device.
While we await Apple s response, it is highly recommended you protect your iPhone X with a case or a third-party glass protector.
