Oculus AR has launched a new version of Medium, its virtual reality sculpture app with a number of user-requested features and system improvements. These new features and improvements make it much easier to create 3D sculptures with the help of Medium 2.0. The company posted an in-depth post on its official blog to share the details about the new features and improvements. The company noted that it has been blown away by the community that Medium has managed to form in about 18 months of its launch. Also Read - Beware! Medium 2.0 comes with much-requested features such as grid snapping, ability to add more than one light source, up to 100 layers for creating more complex sculptures. One thing to note here is that Medium is meant to create 3D objects instead of complete 3D scenes like Tiltbrush that Google just updated. Oculus now also allows users to send their 3D sculptures directly to their Oculus Home virtual living room. Users can then decorate their Oculus Home with the 3D sculptures in Rift Core 2.0. The company noted that the updates run much deeper than just the surface level as it has revamped the file system and the UI for Medium 2.0. The company has also added a new rendering engine that now uses Vulkan to take better advantage of GPU resources. This means that users will have a much better and smoother experience while dealing with complex sculptures. Oculus has also tutorials in Medium 2.0 so that users can better understand new tools such as Elastic Move , and Layer Resolution Visualization .
Oculus has updated the minimum specifications for Rift Core 2.0 which means that you will require Windows 10 to run Medium 2.0. Lydia Choy, the Technical Art Director at Oculus added, I m super excited for this release because we ve added a lot of features our community have been asking for more flexible scene management, better memory and performance, and more sculpting precision, just to name a few of the larger themes of this release.
