Ola Cabs has just announced that it is entering the transportation market in the UK. As part of the announcement, the company shared that it has received the license to operate in Greater Manchester, and South Wales and it will launch its services in South Wales within the next month. Ola Cabs claims that it will be the only app-based ride-hailing service in the UK to provide the option of Black Cabs and PHVs (Private Hire Vehicles) to its users. The company stated that it will continue to add more transportation options to its app so that users have more options to choose from. The company is currently working with local authorities across the country for nationwide expansion by the end of 2018. Bhavish Aggarwal, the Co-Founder, and CEO of Ola issued a statement, Ola is excited to announce its plans for the UK, one of the world s most evolved transportation markets. He went on to add, We look forward to our continued engagement with policymakers and regulators as we expand across the country and build a company embedded in the UK. Ola s UK launch comes months after Ola Cabs announced its launch in Australia. According to the announcement, the company currently operates in seven major Australian cities with more than 40,000 registered drivers. The company added that it undertakes about 1 billion rides per year across the globe with more than 125 million customers and 1 million driver partners across 110 cities. As part of the announcement, the company is calling all HPVs, and Metered Taxi drivers in Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan, and Newport to sign up with the service.
Ola has also lowed the commission rate to 10 percent for PHVs, and to 5 percent for metered taxis so attract the drivers. The company added that it is also offering services such as 24/7 voice support, ability to share ride details with emergency contacts, and in-app features for cases of emergency.
