Ola Share grows by 500% in one year, most used in metro cities

Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata are top users


Ola Share, the carpool service launched by Ola, has shown remarkable growth in a period of one year. To be precise, the service has grown over 500 percent in just a year since its inception As per details shared by the cab service provider, the maximum growth was witnessed in major metro cities across the country: Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Ola Share is a service where multiple users traveling to the same destination can share one cab. The driver, as well as the passengers, benefit from the service as drivers earn multiple fares and passengers pay lesser for the same route and distance. the service lets 1-2 persons share a cab. The passengers are determined by Ola Algorithm which determines passengers traveling to the same destination and pools them together. The service also benefits the environment as it reduces the carbon emissions. As per technology developed and data shared by World Resolurce Institute (WRI), the initiative has helped Ola Share save 12 million kilograms of carbon dioxide from being let out into the air and saved over seven million liters of fuel a total of 84 million kilometers shorter distance traveled by cabs. The service is present in 26 cities all over India and Ola is now expanding their Ola Share service. To mark the achievement, Ola is promoting a #FarakPadtaHai campaign across social media channels.

Commenting on the Occasion, Vishal Kaul, COO at Ola said, “Ola Share is one of our flagship products and is poised to bring down traffic congestion on roads, which means that people in our cities will spend less time in traffic. We have seen a high uptake for the category on both the customer as well as the driver partner side.” Ola has also joined hands with traffic police departments in key metro cities to promote shared transport and bring down carbon emissions. Ola also launched their Share Pass service which is a one-time payment fee for availing Share rides at a fixed price. As a new initiative, Ola is promoting Share Pass for just Re. 1, letting users avail the benefits from June 5 to June 11. “Cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata are the biggest users of Ola Share, and to keep the momentum going, we are selling Share Pass at a flat Re 1 in all our Ola Share cities. Share Pass, one of our recent and most popular product innovations, has seen phenomenal growth since its launch in November last year. Currently, Share Pass has already pre-sold 20 million+ Ola Share rides. Vishal Kaul added.
