YouTube may just have had a 7-year-old boy become the highest earning star, but its oldest star, 107-years-old Granny Mastanamma just passed away. Andrakashari Mastanamma who was popularly known as Granny Mastanamma, hailed from Andhra Pradesh and shot to YouTube fame with her cooking videos showing rural techniques of cooking modern dishes. The channel that featured her videos is called “Country Foods”.
On Monday, the channel posted a video sharing with the world that its star had passed away and showed her final journey. The channel was started by Srinath Reddy and Laxman Karre in August 2016, and Karre happens to be the grandson of Mastanamma. The channel had stopped posting videos by Mastanamma for the past six months which caused a stir among fans.
Mastanamma was featured by and YouTube during a presentation at VidCon, where she was referred to as the oldest content creator on the platform. YouTube even had a blog that talked about the channel “Country Foods” and did an interview with Mastanamma’s grandson Laxman.
Mastanamma was a self taught chef and she specialized in making seafood. This was because she had quick access to river fish, because she hailed from Guntur which is a riverside town. She made interesting recipes like Watermelon Chicken, Egg Dosa, Chicken Briyani, and Emu Meat Curry.
Her Egg Fried Rice recipe video has over 15 million views and the channel itself has over 1.2 million subscribers. In all her videos she made the dishes from scratch which included peeling, chopping and seasoning all the food that was being prepared.
