It was only a couple of days ago that we heard about possible specifications of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch and today another smartwatch project is going live on Kickstarter. While smartwatches have been around, we are piqued by the Omate TrueSmart, which boasts features similar to the rumored specs of the Galaxy Gear. The TrueSmart has a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, can accomodate micro SIM cards to function as a smartphone and has an onboard camera, speaker and mic too. It also has 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory along with a microSD card slot, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It has a 1.54-inch 240×240 pixel touchscreen display and a 600mAh battery, which the company claims is enough to give it up to 100 hours of standby time. We are a little disappointed that the watch does not have any health/fitness related sensors. The project goes up on Kickstarter at 7:30PM IST and interested people can pledge a minimum of $179. While it is true that the Pebble was the most successful crowdfunded product till the Ubuntu Edge came along, it remains to be seen if indie smartwatch products still garner that much support considering tier-one brands like Samsung and Apple are expected to unveil their own smartwatches.
