After unveilng key specs of the OnePlus 2 at regular intervals, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has now given us a hint about the pricing of the smartphone. Lau announced on Twitter that the next flagship from the Chinese smartphone company will be priced under $450 (Rs 28,600 approximately). The company had earlier hinted that because OnePlus 2 is coming with significant upgrades, it would be priced higher than its predecessor. There were rumors that the smartphone would be priced upwards of $322 (Rs 20,540 approximately), but looks like it might be even more expensive than that. In the US, OnePlus has priced the One for as low as $299 for the 16GB variant and $349 for the 64GB variant. In India, it launched the smartphone for Rs 18,999 and Rs 21,999 respectively. Apart from the pricing hint, OnePlus has already revealed that the OnePlus 2 will be powered by an improved version of Snapdragon 810 chipset that has reportedly overcome its heating issues. Furthermore the company has also revealed that it will feature a USB Type-C port, and a fingerprint scanner that is better and faster than Apple s TouchID sensor.
As far as rumors are concerned, the OnePlus 2 may sport a slimmer full metal body. It is likely to feature a 5.5-inch full HD (1920 1080 pixels) display, 4GB/3GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera, and on the software front, it will run on Lollipop-based Cyanogen OS or Oxygen OS in India. Leaked sketches hint at a possible dual-camera setup at the back, and a Bluetooth certification filing claims that the OnePlus 2 could be available in three variants.
OnePlus is launching the flagship on July 27 by hosting a unique virtual reality event, and has even created its own custom Cardboard VR for the big unveil. The company is giving away free OnePlus Cardboard headsets to selected users, while it will officially go on sale later this month exclusively via Amazon India, priced at Rs 99.
