OnePlus has already made 2017 great for its users! In an OS update that just about has the company stick to its promise of the update rollout by the end of 2016, OnePlus has rolled out Official Android Nougat 7.0 based OxygenOS 4.0 for OnePlus 3 and 3T users. The announcement was first made by Carl Pei, Co-Founder of OnePlus on Twitter on December 31, after which the OnePlus 3 and 3T forums were also updated with the announcement. The update is rolling out on an incremental basis, and users will receive the update in the coming days. Primarily, for both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users, the changelog includes updates such as a new notification design which includes a bit more information in the form of a notification preview, new settings menu design for easier access to settings, multi-window view, notification direct reply through the notifications shade, custom DPI support, Status Bar icon customization options, new Quick Launch for third party applications, and tweaks to the shelf feature. Another key change is in the way the alert slider works, and you now have to slide it to the top-most position to activate silent mode, the middle position for do-not-disturb, and bottom for ringer mode. It’s no longer possible to change the ringer mode completely through the software itself. While there are other visible changes all through the system, certain features also work differently from the previous software versions, and battery life and performance appear to have received a slight boost as well.
In addition to that, OnePlus also launched the Open Beta program for OnePlus 3T users while launching the first Beta build for users to test drive. Previously, OnePlus had announced that even OnePlus 2 users will get the new Android Nougat update and that the company is working on it. However, the till now no fixed timeline for the upgrade has been provided by the team.
This is what we’re releasing today: 1) Open Beta 1 (Nougat) for OP3T. This is already live on our forums.

The last big update that was rolled out for OnePlus 3T users was the OxygenOS 3.5.4 update based on Android Marshmallow, which ironically was expected to be the Android Nougat update for the smartphones. The update brought with it optimized battery saving mode, under which GPS and Orientation Preferences will be restored when this mode is turned on. More changes include fixing the flashlight usability issue in WhatsApp, increasing system stability and implementing various bug fixes. OnePlus 3 users were on Oxygen OS 3.2.8 until the update, and have now been brought to Oxygen OS 4.0 as previously stated.
