The alleged leaked photos of the OnePlus 3 spotted on Weibo show a similar design language as its predecessor, the OnePlus 2. However, this time around, OnePlus has ditched its proprietary sandstone back finish, and has embraced metal back instead. For some reason, the back of the device bears striking similarities as the HTC One M9 be it the placement of camera sensor or the plastic antenna bands at the top and bottom. The front panel shows the camera module above the screen with earpiece and other sensors, whereas the bottom has a physical home button, which is expected come embedded with a fingerprint scanner, just like the OnePlus 2. The left panel bears the alert slider as seen on the OnePlus X and the OnePlus 2. The USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack and the speaker grill can be seen at the bottom.
A set of other photos leaked by a different Weibo user and spotted by XDADevelopers sheds light on the operating system. The photos show off the boot screen with an OTA update. The smartphone is running on RAINOxygen_15_1_605041932 version, which is likely to be based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
The OnePlus 3 is expected to get a major bump in its specifications. Recent reports point to a 5.5-inch full HD display, which is same as the previous model, but will be powered by Qualcomm s flagship Snapdragon 820 processor paired with Adreno 530 GPU, 6GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. A variant with 16GB storage and 4GB of RAM is also expected.
In the photography department, a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing unit is also likely to be in tow. It is likely to be powered by a 3,500mAh battery and may include OnePlus recently trademarked Dash Charge feature for fast charging. While there is no word on exact pricing, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei had earlier hinted that the OnePlus 3 could priced be higher compared to the OnePlus 2. This time around, the company may also ditch its invite-only system for buying the smartphone. The smartphone is expected to be launched by end of the next month.
