Just ahead of its launch event tonight, OnePlus has revealed in a newspaper ad that the OnePlus 3 smartphone will be priced at Rs 27,999 in India. It will be exclusively available on Amazon India. The photo and the specifications revealed in the ad are almost identical to what we had heard so far. The OnePlus 3 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It also gets a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button, which the company claims can unlock the smartphone in 0.2 seconds. The OnePlus 3 is using what the company calls an Optic AMOLED display. Prior leaks had suggested it would be a 5.5-inch 1080p display.
Surprisingly, however, the ad says the OnePlus 3 has an 8-megapixel rear and 16-megapixel front facing camera. We are hoping this is a typo or else it would be a pretty strange camera setup.
Other features include fast charging, which has been branded as Dash Charge. Along with the OnePlus 3 users will also get a year’s subscription of Saavn Pro while Idea users will also get double data for a year. OnePlus is also giving damage protection for one year via OnePlus Care and Rs 500 credit on the Amazon Kindle app.
While the specifications look great, it remains to be seen what OnePlus has managed to do with OxygenOS, which has been a weak link for the company. At this price and these specifications the OnePlus 3 would compete with the LeEco Le Max2, which was unveiled last week.
It is fascinating that OnePlus would reveal all this information in an advertisement ahead of the global launch but then it is an unusual company.
