Design: No matter how much it is going to disappoint OnePlus hardcore fans, OnePlus is going to do away with that distinctive sandstone back panel and embrace a full metal body design. This could be OnePlus attempt to join the premium league of Android smartphones like the HTC 10 which come with metal design. It may be recalled that OnePlus had experimented with a 2.5D glass for a more affordable OnePlus X smartphone. There was a limited ceramic version too. While launching the OnePlus X, the company had hinted at a shift in strategy from targeting the geek community to style enthusiasts. The OnePlus 3 seems to be in line with the same philosophy. Specifications: OnePlus has always offered top-of-the line specifications with its flagship smartphones. The OnePlus 3 is no different and will have a 5.5-inch full HD Optic AMOLED display. It runs on Snapdragon 820 processor with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. There is no word at the moment whether OnePlus would launch additional storage variants or not.
For photography, the smartphone will come with 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front facing camera. Today’s ad suggests otherwise but it is most likely to be a mistake, much like the ad itself. It is likely to be powered by a 3,000mAh battery featuring Dash Charge technology for fast charging.
On the software front, the smartphone will come with Oxygen OS based on Android Marshmallow. It will be interesting to see how much effort OnePlus has made to optimize its Oxygen OS. It may be recalled that OnePlus had to adopt a new OS after its fall-out with Cyanogen. But Oxygen OS wasn t really up to the mark and had hurt the OnePlus 2 s performance.
Price: The OnePlus 3 is priced at Rs 27,999 for the 64GB variant with 6GB of RAM. Earlier rumors had suggested the OnePlus 3 will be available in 6 different variants but there is no word on that, yet. If we were to hazard a guess, OnePlus could possibly launch one more variant with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM, which provide a lower price point.
Availability: It has already been confirmed that OnePlus 3 will go on sale in India starting June 15 via Amazon a day after the global launch. OnePlus has also confirmed that it is going to do away with its annoying invite-system.
Offers: OnePlus is offering one year of subscription of Saavn Pro and Rs 500 credit on the Amazon Kindle app with the OnePlus 3. It has teamed up with Idea Cellular to offer double data for a year. Also, the company is offering damage protection for one year through OnePlus Care.
