After the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, phone explosions are being reported much more frequently than before. Companies are also taking reports seriously in an effort to maintain customer trust in the face of safety concerns. Last night, BGR India discovered that a Mumbai-based OnePlus 3T user had an incident with her phone, where the battery has reportedly exploded. The incident took place about a month ago, according to the customer s Facebook post detailing the incident. EDIT: The customer has taken down the Facebook post on the issue, and it is hence no longer visible in this story.
The customer hasn’t elaborated on how the OnePlus 3T exploded or what was the state of the device at the time of the explosion, except that she was not injured during the incident. Instead, the post which brings the issue to light is focused on the customer s poor experience with OnePlus after-sales service in the time after the incident. The Facebook post further states that a friend of the customer had a similar battery explosion incident with a OnePlus One and received a similarly poor response from customer service representatives of OnePlus.
From the pictures posted by the customer and the Facebook post itself, it s clear that the explosion was a significant one that effectively destroyed the back cover and the motherboard of the phone. The device appears to be completely charred as a result of the explosion. BGR India has also reached out to OnePlus India for a comment on this, and is awaiting a response from the company.
The OnePlus 3T was launched in India back in December 2016 from Rs 29,999 onwards, and was an incremental upgrade over the OnePlus 3 which was launched a few months prior to it. The phone remained on sale in India till the Diwali season of 2017, when it was discontinued to boost sales of the OnePlus 5 and in the lead-up to the launch of the OnePlus 5T.
The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, and has 6GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of internal storage and a 3,400mAh battery. The device also features Dash Charge, which is OnePlus proprietary fast charging technology. The Dash charger is a 20W unit which quickly delivers power to the phone.
