OnePlus is now rolling out the latest stable OTA update for its 2017 devices, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. OxygenOS 5.1.3 based on Android 8.1 Oreo is being delivered to users in a phased manner, and all OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T devices running on the stable software path will receive an OTA software push in the coming days. The update comes less than a month after OxygenOS 5.1.2.

The update carries the fix for a critical bug that was discovered in the bootloader of the OnePlus 6 by an independent security researcher a few days ago. Although the issue was discovered on the newest OnePlus device, this update seeks to fix the flaw in OxygenOS even on the older devices. Additionally, there are general bug fixes and improvements across the software, as well as a fix for a stability issue regarding Bluetooth connections for cars.

A notable omission in the update is Google’s monthly Android security patch, which remains on the May 2018 level. While the Open Beta software program has updated the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T to the June patch, the stable OTA remains one month behind. It’s worth pointing out that the OnePlus 6 is also still on the May security patch, so it’s possible that the stable ROMs aren’t ready for the later security patches just yet.

Although software updates are frequent enough on the stable OTA path, the Open Beta path has been receiving more frequent updates, as well as better features and fixes. OnePlus is yet to announce the Open Beta program for the OnePlus 6 though, despite the phone being in the market for a month now.

OnePlus has built itself a reputation of offering excellent software-based support for even its older devices. An example of this can be seen in the OnePlus 3, which despite being launched in June 2016 is currently running on Android Oreo and continues to receive regular software updates.
