Many OnePlus 5 users are complaining about jelly scrolling effect on the smartphone. While swiping through the display on the other side, the images, icons and text on the screen suddenly changes size and expands or shrinks. It creates a jelly-like visual effect and though nothing potentially harmful, it makes for an extremely uncomfortable experience. And while OnePlus has already issued a statement mentioning the effect is natural, and there will not be a fix for it, developers have tried to understand what is causing the effect and the results are surprising. As per an XDA Developers’ thread, the OnePlus 5 display is inverted or upside down and that is what is causing the jelly scroll effect. While the thread does mention that any direct relation is yet to be established, the jelly scroll effect is most likely caused by this abnormality. Also, the display panel being attached upside down is not a mistake or error on the part of the brand, but rather it seems to be deliberate as Oneplus has acknowledged the jelly scroll and also mentioned that there is nothing to be worried about. However, as the display is deliberately placed upside down, there is curiosity as to the reasoning behind the same. OnePlus continues to maintain silence and had not offered any explanation behind the decision for the change. The change in screen orientation has not affected all smartphones and it is only a few users who will face the problem, according to the company. Also, the issue cannot be resolved with an OTA update or by taking the device to a service center as the smartphone’s display cannot be rotated back. On exchanging the unit, there is no guarantee that the next smartphone will not come with a similar issue. ALSO READ: OnePlus 5 Review: Feel the power
OnePlus 5 is not the only device that is exhibiting such odd behavior on inverting the screen. Many smartphone displays behave in a similar manner when their displays are inverted, the report states. Developers discovered that the screen orientation is changed to rotate by 180 degrees, so users do not face any difficulties or inverted text. On co-checking the same with other smartphones, it was found only on the OnePlus 5, strengthening the belief that the display is indeed inverted and that is exactly why the jelly scroll effect. The display was most likely inverted owing to space restraints caused by the latest dual camera setup. ALSO READ: OnePlus 5 becomes highest grossing smartphone in launch week on Amazon India
“The OnePlus 5 uses the same level of high-quality components as all OnePlus devices, including the AMOLED display. We’ve received feedback from a small number of users saying that at times they notice a subtle visual effect when scrolling. This is natural and there’s no variance in screens between devices.”, says the official OnePlus statement. ALSO READ: OnePlus 5: Dual camera system explained

The issue is yet to be acknowledged by the company and users facing the problem are asked to replace their devices by Amazon India.
