OnePlus CEO gives a sneak peek at OnePlus 5 performance
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau also took to the company s blog to make the announcement official. Lau believes that choosing the right components is only the first step in making a good device. He shared that for the OnePlus 5, the company is working on improving the touch latency. Our engineers tested why scrolling occasionally differed between phones. There wasn’t a lot of precedent for them to work with no benchmarks, no industry case studies to learn from. So we used a special high-speed camera to track screen movements and measure input speeds. As a result, apps respond quickly to your touch for a seamless user experience, he wrote.
Further, he says with OnePlus 5, the company has also worked on making the UI fluidity better. To achieve that, OnePlus engineers have added a feature to OxygenOS to better manage the way apps perform. Which means, with the improvement, your most used apps will be ready to go when you turn on the OnePlus 5, and the apps you rarely use are deprioritized and kept from affecting the performance. Besides this, recently, OnePlus founder Liu Zuotu had also confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will come with a front fingerprint sensor. While a fingerprint scanner on the front or back is no more unusual, but the fact that it s another bit about the device we know about for sure , it counts as something. Also, OnePlus has even confirmed that it is partnering with DxO to make the OnePlus 5 s camera better.
What is Snapdragon 835 chipset?
Talking about the chipset, the Snapdragon 835, which also powers the Samsung Galaxy S8 duo and the new Xiaomi Mi 6, is the flagship chipset from Qualcomm, launched earlier this year at CES 2017. The chipset is the first to be made on 10nm manufacturing process, as compared to the 14nm process earlier, which is believed to improve both performance and power consumption.
Further, unlike the quad-core Snapdragon 820/821, the Snapdragon 835 features an octa-core Kryo 280, while continuing to use a big.LITTLE architecture. This allows four high-performance cores to be clocked at up to 2.45GHz, while the other four Efficiency Cluster cores can be clocked at up to 1.9GHz. As far as performance is concerned, Qualcomm promises 27 percent boost in performance, while at the same time there will be 40 percent less power usage when compared to the Snapdragon 820. As for GPU, the Adreno 540 onboard supports 4K@60fps displays, and offers 25 percent faster graphics rendering than last year s chipset. The new chipset is also compatible with Google s Daydream platform.
Also, the Snapdragon 835 chipset will support Quick Charge 4.0, with which devices will be able to offer up to five hours worth of battery life with five minutes of charging. Along with support for USB Type-C, Qualcomm says Quick Charge 4.0 promises 20 percent faster charging, and up to 30 percent higher efficiency. While we now know for sure that it will be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 835 chipset, the rumors have it that it will be launched in two variants, one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage, and another with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. For photography, the OnePlus 5 is rumored to sport a 23-megapixel rear camera, though some reports also suggest dual camera setup – a 16-megapixel one, and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.
As of now, there is no word on whan the smartphone will be made offiical. But considering the amount of leaks that are pouring on a daily basis, the launch event may not be far off.
