OnePlus 5T getting first stable Oreo update with OxygenOS 5.0.2, OnePlus 5 gets face unlock

OnePlus 5T is finally getting Android Oreo update with OxygenOS 5.0.2 while OnePlus 5 also gets the new version.

OnePlus has started the rollout of Android 8.O Oreo for its flagship OnePlus 5T smartphone. The OnePlus 5T is the newest flagship from the Chinese smartphone maker and Android Oreo is being released as part of the OxygenOS 5.0.2 update, which is the first Android Oreo-based stable OTA update for the phone.

This is the first official Android O update for the flagship OnePlus 5T and is being released as an OTA update. The update is an incremental release and will be available to all OnePlus 5T owners in a phased manner. The update arrives just a day after the company released the Open Beta 3 for the smartphone which removed the controversial Clipboard app and included a patch for CPU vulnerabilities.

The OnePlus 5T Oreo update brings a new design for Quick settings while some system apps are getting updated to new versions. The OxygenOS 5.0.2 update also brings number of bug fixes and mitigation for CPU vulnerability including Spectre attacks capable of stealing user credentials including passwords and private keys.

With the OxygenOS 5.0.2 release, OnePlus is updating the default launcher to version 2.2 while the Gallery app has been updated to version 2.0. The weather app has been bumped to version 1.9 while the File Manager is getting updated to version 1.7.6. The update adds core Android Oreo features such as gesture support, PIP mode, support for notification dots and notification channels.

The company has also released the incremental OxygenOS 5.0.2 for the OnePlus 5 smartphone. The update brings Face Unlock and a fix for the Spectre CPU vulnerability. The update also brings enhanced electronic image stabilization for video recording.

The update additionally brings the updated launcher version 2.2 while the Gallery app has been updated to version 2.0 with tabs and maps integration. The weather app has been updated to version 1.9 while the File Manager is upgraded to version 1.7.6. The update also brings general bug fixes and user experience improvements.

The OxygenOS 5.0.2 update weighs in at around 1.7GB for the OnePlus 5T while the OTA update for OnePlus 5 has a file size of around 400MB. The roll out is an incremental one and will be available to a small percentage of users today while the wider roll out will begin in the next few days.
