The OnePlus 5T has gone out-of-stock in North America, and reportedly isn’t having its stocks replenished. OnePlus has confirmed to Engadget that all stocks meant for North America are sold out, and that the company will not be replenishing these stocks. Effectively, if you live in North America and were planning to buy the OnePlus 5T, then you’re out of luck. But what that really means is you’ll just have to wait for the launch of the OnePlus 6. OnePlus’ head of global marketing and general manager for North America Kyle Kiang has confirmed the news, stating that the device has gone out-of-stock earlier than expected due to strong demand in the market. The OnePlus 5T was launched globally at the end of November 2017, and remained on sale in North America for just four months. In other key global markets for OnePlus including China and India, the OnePlus 5T continues to remain on sale in both of its variants, at least for the time being.
However, what the stock exhaustion could indicate is that the OnePlus 6 is closer to launch than we expect. While it was initially believed that the new phone would launch in late May or early June 2018, we could potentially see the launch of the device earlier. Any delay in the launch of the phone now would only add to the time where OnePlus’ revenues from North America and other markets are reduced, so a quick launch of the new phone is likely to benefit the company greatly.
As further elaborated by the Engadget report, OnePlus doubled its global revenue to $1.4 billion last year, of which North America accounts for about 25 percent of its sales. However, the company has shown incredible growth in India, with the country now the largest single market for OnePlus anywhere globally. Thus, OnePlus continues to divert its focus to the Indian market, including competitive pricing strategies, strong marketing, the introduction of offline sales and ensuring that its products are kept in stock through both its official distribution partner Amazon India as well as through its own oneplusstore.in domain.
The OnePlus 5T has been a successful model for the maverick smartphone maker, and has been well received by both reviewers and users. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, and comes with up to 8GB of RAM, up to 128GB of internal storage, dual-SIM connectivity and Dash Charge fast charging. The phone has been updated to Android Oreo, and has also seen special variants including a limited edition Star Wars variant and a Lava Red option. The OnePlus 6 will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and could see big changes in the design and screen.
