Ever since word got out, the OnePlus 5T has found its way into rumour quite often. Even its unboxing videos have been uploaded to YouTube. Consolidating leaks, rumors, and confirmed information, here’s what you can expect from the OnePlus 5T launch today.
Rumors started with the OnePlus 5T featuring an edge-to-edge display design similar to the recently launched Oppo R11s. Leaked renders also showed a similar design with that of the Samsung Galaxy S8. Two unboxing videos leaked online gave away the design change which only confirmed past leaks and reports. With very thin bezels on top and bottom, OnePlus ditched the Home button and instead places a fingerprint sensor at the rear.
The dual-camera setup is located at the same place on the top left corner but with a bigger mount this time. The OnePlus 5T’s body also seems slightly bigger than the OnePlus 5. There’s a 3.5mm audio jack which OnePlus recently confirmed, and a USB Type-C port as well. The edge-to-edge display could possibly be on a 6.01-inch screen with full HD resolution (1080p).
Chipset, RAM and storage
Like the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T will also be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor. It is confirmed that there will a storage variant of 8GB RAM plus 128GB storage. There is a base variant expected as well with 6GB RAM plus 64GB internal storage, but it hasn’t been confirmed as yet. Battery, connectivity, and OS
The OnePlus 5T is expected to be fueled by the same 3,300mAh battery along with support for Dash Charging. While many expected wireless charging on the smartphone, the company decided not to go ahead with it keeping convenience for users in mind. Its connectivity options would include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. ALSO READ: The OnePlus 5T won t get wireless charging, and that s fine
Another important feature revealed by the unboxing videos is that the OnePlus 5T runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Previously, it was rumored that the smartphone will launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. Although, an upgrade shouldn’t take long with the OnePlus 5T. It is confirmed that the OnePlus 5T will continue with the dual-camera setup, but its specifics still remain unknown. However, a recent Geekbench listing states that the smartphone will sport a pair of 20-megapixel cameras at rear, and a 16-megapixel front facing camera. The megapixel count on the OnePlus 5T’s may not increase, but upgraded features are highly expected.
Fingerprint sensor will be the biometric security system on the OnePlus 5T. But the company will unveil add another security method on the OnePlus 5T which was discovered from the unboxing video. Like the iPhone X’s Face ID feature, the OnePlus 5T will also have a Face Lock feature for unlocking the smartphone. It’s possibly be more advanced than Samsung’s iris scanning as it will scan an entire face to unlock the smartphone. More details on the OnePlus 5T’s Face Lock feature will be revealed at the launch event.
Pricing and availability
OnePlus caused quite a debate with the increased pricing of the OnePlus 5T although it still stuck on the mid-range segment. With the OnePlus 5T, there have been reports suggesting that it will be priced the same as OnePlus 5, at least for the base variant. In the US, the OnePlus 5T is expected to be priced at $480 (approximately Rs 31,400) for the base variant. The higher model could retail at $540 (approximately Rs 35,300). Since prices vary in different markets, it’s difficult to determine the exact result. RELATED: OnePlus 5T will be priced the same as OnePlus 5: Report
