It appears OnePlus does not want to retain any information about its upcoming flagship smartphone OnePlus 6. The company’s CEO Pete Lau has been teasing prime features of the smartphone through social media. After teasing the camera capabilities of the OnePlus 6 last week, Lau has now revealed one important detail about the anticipated smartphone. On the OnePlus forum, Lau has written about the aesthetics of the OnePlus 6. He talks about the importance of design and how the OnePlus 6 will be a notch ahead of its predecessors and feature a glass back. The smartphone will retain the horizon design while incorporating glass materials. Also Read - OnePlus Nord CE 5G new update brings optimisations for overheating, cameras improvements
“OnePlus 6’s glass design is centered around creating a “sense of value” and “premium hand-feel,” writes Lau. He further goes on to explain, “The advantages of glass over metal are manifold: glass communicates a transparent, bright, and pure feeling. The way glass transforms under different lighting is a particularly important challenge the OnePlus design team tested over 70 glass prototypes before selecting the best one.”
Elaborating on the process of building the OnePlus 6, Lau says, “The OnePlus 6’s glass back contains five printed layers of Nanotech Coating, a first in the smartphone industry. We applied 5 layers of Nanotech Coating instead of 3, even though the degree of separation between each layer is extremely subtle and tough to discern. However, the additional layers give the back of the device a stronger impression of depth that our most demanding users will surely appreciate. Closely examine the OnePlus 6 and you ll indeed see this subtle nuance embedded in each device.”
Now that we have one more piece of the puzzle ‘officially’ in place, it is not hard to imagine how much of a design marvel the OnePlus 6 could be. It is already confirmed that it will feature a notch display. With the confirmation of the glass back, it won’t be incorrect to call it an iPhone X clone with Android inside. Other specifications which have been confirmed by the company include Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 SoC running under the hood, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of default storage.

In terms of camera, the OnePlus 6 is likely to sport dual camera sensors at the back. It is also expected to support Face Unlock, in addition to the traditional fingerprint sensor at the back. The smartphone is further likely to come with water and dust resistant capabilities. Given that it is confirmed to feature a glass body design, it is safe to assume it will support wireless charging as well, as rumors indicated in the past. OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 6 sometime in May.
