A number of OnePlus 6 users across multiple online discussion platforms from Reddit, the OnePlus community as well as XDA are reporting issues with the display on their devices. The users have complained that the screen of their OnePlus 6 devices seems to flicker in certain situations. This issue is only being reported in situations when the device software is controlling the brightness of the device with the help of built-in feature known as “Adaptive brightness”. For people who may not be aware with this feature, one can turn this feature on or off in the Display options in the settings app.
The adaptive screen automatically increases or decreases the display of the brightness of your device according to how much ambient light is available in the surrounding of the smartphone. According to the complaints, the screen flickering only happens when the device is outside under direct sunlight and the brightness of the screen is on the higher side. According to a report by PiunikaWeb, this does not seem to be an isolated issue and users initially started noticing the issue in OxygenOS 5.1.8. The problem has continued through OxygenOS 5.1.9.

The report pointed out that this issue was also reported back in the display of the OnePlus 2 devices as well. In response to the reports, OnePlus has acknowledged the issue as part of its Weekly Update 242. OnePlus Community Manager David Y added that the company has “noticed” feedback from users.
He went on to add that Adaptive brightness feature “will be optimized” in the next software update for the OnePlus 6. The company is planning to release this new update “very soon!” This comes days after OnePlus announced new versions of OxygenOS Open Beta for its OnePlus 5 and 5T devices. As part of the rollout, Open Beta 15 is rolling out for the OnePlus 5 and Open Beta 13 for the 5T users.
