We’ve seen a lot of leaks and reveals about the OnePlus 6 already, including an upcoming Avengers: Infinity War Special Edition. However, the latest report suggests that the phone could have a feature that’s only been seen on a handful of devices so far – super slow-motion video. For now, a small set Sony smartphones, the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ and the Huawei P20 series are the only devices that have this feature. According to a poster captured off the OnePlus India website by Mobigyaan (that has since been taken down), this key feature of the phone has been given away. The poster talks of a Super Slo Mo feature on the upcoming OnePlus 6, although no additional details on the feature are mentioned. For now, the Samsung and Sony smartphones can achieve a slow-motion video framerate of 960fps, albeit for just a few frames at a time. It’s assumed that OnePlus will be able to use the processing power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset to achieve that rate as well.
While a lot of smartphones can achieve a continuous slow-motion video framerate of 240fps, going four times as high at 960fps requires serious processing power. As such, only a few frames can be recorded at a time at the highest frame rate, with the recording reverting to regular motion at a lower frame rate post that. This requires excellent timing by the photographer, as it would need the recording to be triggered at the right time. In our review of the Sony Xperia XZs last year, we were able to try out the feature extensively.

The addition of such a feature on the OnePlus 6 would be a welcome addition, and would help OnePlus tout its camera as being technologically superior to much of the competition available today. The OnePlus 6 will be launched on May 16 globally, May 17 in India, and will go sale on May 21 in India exclusively on Amazon.in.
