Good Evening. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made his second appearance before the US House Committee yesterday. While the first hearing failed to grill Zuckerberg, members of the House Energy Committee seemed more information about Facebook’s business model. Key Point: Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that even his own personal data was exposed to Cambridge Analytica. This led to a meme that Zuckerberg is just one among us.

Zuckerberg’s testimony should come a wake up call for tech companies especially when it comes to handling user data. At the hearing, Zuckerberg dodged a number of questions and most often replied with company’s AI efforts to tackle critical issues. He also seemed uncomfortable to admit whether the privacy settings and terms of services will be simplified in the future. Few senators made it clear that they plan to regulate big tech companies similar to media companies and it has a potential to hurt their business model. The last important thing to watch is whether Facebook follows up with the promises its CEO made during the two days of hearing that saw Zuckerberg seated on the hot seat for nearly 10 hours.

Mark Zuckerberg can breathe a sigh of relief mainly for coming out unscathed from these hearings. But if you want to know what happened in tech beyond Facebook then we have you covered. Here is a rundown of all the major tech stories:

OnePlus teases next flagship

OnePlus is at it again. The Chinese smartphone maker has teased its upcoming flagship, OnePlus 6 by placing it on top of OnePlus 5T. The teaser reveals that OnePlus 6 will feature a repositioned Alert Slider button that will offer dual functionality of acting as focus slider as well. The smartphone is also expected to slimmer than its predecessor but retains the antenna lines at the top and bottom edges.

Apart from that minor design tweak, it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There are also rumors of OnePlus launching a limited edition Avengers version as well. As it has been a tradition every passing year, the OnePlus 6 will cost more than its predecessor.

Lenovo ThinkPad 2018 launched in India

Lenovo has announced the launch of its 2018 ThinkPad lineup in India. The new ThinkPads were first showcased at CES 2018 and includes models like the 6th generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon, ThinkPad X1 Yoga, ThinkPad X series, ThinkPad T series and ThinkPad L series.

The new sixth generation X1 Carbon is the flaghsip device here with a true to roots ThinkPad design and latest 8th generation Intel Core processors. The notebook also comes with new features like ThinkShutter, which allows users to disable the webcam by using a mechanical shutter button. Samsung Galaxy Note 9 might pack a 4000mAh battery

Samsung’s Galaxy Note series differed from Galaxy S series primary in terms of battery capacity and support for S Pen stylus. However, with the launch of Galaxy Note 5, Samsung has blurred that line to S Pen stylus alone since it moved back to a smaller battery design. That could change once again with the launch of Galaxy Note 9 later this year.

A new report states that Galaxy Note 9 might house a larger 4,000mAh battery, which is considerably bigger than the 3,300mAh battery found on Galaxy Note 8 and 3,500mAh battery found under the hood of Galaxy S9+. It is too early to talk about the Galaxy Note 9 so take this with a grain of salt but it will always be nice to have a massive battery especially on a premium device like the Galaxy Note series.

Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 Plus get Android 8.1 Oreo

According to reports, the update weighs 590.2MB for the Nokia 7 Plus and around 802MB for the Nokia 6 (2018). Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 plus are part of Android One program. The Nokia 6 (2018) is now available through online and offline retail channels while Nokia 7 plus preorders begin from April 20.

Gmail is getting a redesign

Google is planning a major redesign for its email service, Gmail. The search giant is planning to bring material design template to its email service along with a streamlined access to Google Calendar. It will also include features that are prominently accessible on Inbox.

The redesigned platform will be available in the coming weeks as an early access program for G Suite customers and personal account users. This will come along with a planned change arriving as part of Material Design 2.

Jio planning always connected PC

Reliance Jio might help Qualcomm kickstart its ‘Always Connected PC’ effort in India. The telecom service provider has held talks with US-based chipmaker to launch always connected PC with connectivity capability built-in.

The devices are expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC but it is not clear whether Reliance Jio will build its own computers or offer Windows OEM devices as part of network partnership. The launch of always connected PCs from Jio could bring fresh lease of life to PC market.
