The OnePlus 6 starts at Rs 34,999, whereas the OnePlus 5T starts at Rs 32,999.
OnePlus 6 comes with glass back compared to unibody metal on the OnePlus 5T.
OnePlus has also made slight improvements to the camera on the OnePlus 6.
The OnePlus 6 is here, and the newest flagship smartphone from the Chinese maverick smartphone maker naturally replaces its predecessor. With the OnePlus 5T now out-of-stock officially, new buyers will have to pick up the OnePlus 6 if they want a new phone. But what if you already have a OnePlus 5T and are considering an upgrade?
We’ve detailed the differences in the price, specifications and features of the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 5T. Read on to find out what’s different in the new smartphone and decide if the OnePlus 6 is worth an upgrade from the OnePlus 5T.
Price in India
The OnePlus 6 price in India starts at Rs 34,999 for the base variant with 64GB storage. The 128Gb storage model is priced at Rs 39,999, whereas the Marvel Avengers limited edition device is priced at Rs 44,999. The OnePlus 5T, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 32,999 for the base model with 64GB storage, and the 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 37,999.
The OnePlus 6 is significantly different to the OnePlus 5T when it comes to looks and feel. The biggest different is visible at the front; the screen features a notch at the top. This allows the phone to have a screen that stretches from the top edge to nearly all the way to the bottom, without compromising on the usability of important components such as the front camera, earpiece, proximity sensor and notification LED, all of which are on the notch. The OnePlus 5T has a 6-inch 2160×1080-pixel 18:9 screen, while the OnePlus 6 has a slightly larger (and taller) 6.28-inch 2280×1080-pixel 19:9 screen.
The back of the phones are also significantly different in design. While the OnePlus 5T has a metal unibody casing, the OnePlus 6 ditches the unibody design to go with a combination of metal and glass. The frame of the phone is metal, while the rear is glass, giving the phone a glossy look and different feel entirely. The positioning of the dual-camera setup at the rear is different, which is now a vertically-positioned setup. The fingerprint sensor too sees a change, and is now pill-shaped rather than circular.
The alert slider and dual-SIM tray on the OnePlus 6 also swap positions from where they were on the OnePlus 5T. What doesn’t change is the way the alert slider looks, as well as the bottom of the phone, which sees the speaker grille, USB Type-C port and 3.5mm jack exactly as they were on the OnePlus 5T.

The changes in the specification sheet are few, but the ones that are there are significant. The biggest of these is the chipset. The OnePlus 6 goes with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which is 2018’s flagship chipset from Qualcomm and is currently considered the best mobile SoC in the world. The OnePlus 5T – which was introduced in late 2017 before Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 845 – is powered by last year’s Snapdragon 835 SoC.
One particular limited edition variant of the OnePlus 6 bumps the internal storage up to 256GB, but the standard variants for now are the same as on the OnePlus 5T. You get a 6GB RAM / 64GB storage base variant and an 8GB RAM / 128GB storage second variant. Other key specifications including the battery, charging and software version are the same as what’s currently available on the OnePlus 5T.
While the camera appears the same on paper, there are a couple of minor but important changes. The OnePlus 6 bumps up the pixel size on the primary rear-camera sensor to 1.22 microns, up from the 1.12-micron pixel size on the OnePlus 5T. Additionally, the primary sensor also finally sees the integration of optical image stabilization.
Video recording is another department where the OnePlus 6 sees some changes. It’s now possible to record 4K video at 60fps on the OnePlus 6, while slow-motion video goes up to 240fps at 1080 and 480fps (continuous recording) at 720p.
