In an interview with CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be launching sometime in the late second quarter. While a June launch time frame is not new, this is the first time the company has spoken about its flagship device for the year. This, however, puts rumors to rest about OnePlus breaking its tradition, and launching its smartphone as early as March. What s interesting though is that Lau isn t sure if OnePlus will launch two flagship devices this year. This is in line with what co-founder Carl Pei was quoted as saying during an AMA last year. That said, if the last two years are anything to go by, we could see a OnePlus 6T towards the end of this year.
Further, Lau also confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be powered by Qualcomm s latest Snapdragon 845 Soc. When asked about the chipset, he commented, Of course, there’s no other choice.” OnePlus joins the likes of Samsung and Xiaomi who have confirmed the use of Qualcomm s latest chipset on their upcoming flagship smartphones.
OnePlus 6 leaks are few and far between so far. But based on what we have come across so far, the OnePlus 6 is expected to feature a much-improved facial recognition technology. This feature will be highly inspired from the Apple iPhone X. Another report hinted at an under-display fingerprint sensor on the upcoming device. This could mean that OnePlus will be able to go for a full-screen display with minimum bezels.
