OnePlus is all set to unveil its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 6T at an event in New York, and the event will take place on October 30. Pre-booking for the smartphone have already started, and OnePlus has already detailed some features that we are going to see in the OnePlus 6T. In the promotional material, the company has been teasing the tagline Unlock the Speed, with a teaser of the smartphone showing an in-display fingerprint scanner. The technology is now matured and ready for prime time. While having an in-display scanner is a welcome change, there is some bad news too. OnePlus has confirmed on Weibo that it will be using an optical reader, and not an ultrasonic one. For those who aren t aware of the differences, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is known to be more accurate as it can reach the pores and ridges to scan your fingerprint. The optical readers, on the other hand, are known to be unreliable, and slow at times. We ve reviewed the Vivo X21, which was the first phone to come with an in-display scanner, and it used to used 50/50 percent times on the device. The Vivo NEX and V11 Pro came with improved versions, but it wasn t something that worked with 100 percent accuracy.
Given the fact that OnePlus is a part of BBK Electronics, the company that also markets Oppo and Vivo, the OEMs will likely share the same hardware and technologies. Still, OnePlus can include a revised version, and make improvements with software optimizations.
The OnePlus 6T is also expected to come with a waterdrop style notch to offer a higher screen to body ratio. What s more, the company has also confirmed that the OnePlus 6T will drop the 3.5mm audio socket, and audio will be routed via the USB Type-C port. The company will also be selling the USB Type-C cable for Rs 1,499. There is no word on the pricing, but with the event less than 20 days away, that mystery will also be solved soon.
