Smartphones have long come with opaque backs panels to hide the internal circuitry on the devices. However, a new trend has taken the smartphone and modding industry by storm, that is, devices with transparent backs. In the past couple of months, standalone smartphone modders have started taking on the challenge to convert conventional smartphones into something with a clear, transparent back. This all kicked off when Xiaomi launched its Mi 8 Explorer Edition earlier this year, which appeared to have a transparent back. Even though the back in the smartphone was not really transparent, it did inspire modders to look at transparent backs. This was also possible because of the gradual shift towards glass backs from the metal or opaque plastics that can t be used to make clear or transparent smartphones. A recent video on YouTube channel JerryRigEverything shows a OnePlus 6T with the back clear. The YouTuber did notice that it was a bit difficult to remove the back given the device sports curved edges on the back of the device. He also tried to open the opaque plastic portions on the back of the device to see if he could remove them or modify them, but after inspection opted to let them be. He even added a red-colored cover on the back of the battery to make it stand out like the battery in the original OnePlus One.
The thing to note here is that this is not the first clear back project by this particular YouTuber, and he has been successful in modding devices including Google Pixel 3, Vivo NEX S, OnePlus 6 Red Edition, and Samsung Galaxy S9.
