OnePlus launched the OnePlus 2 in India yesterday. The price of the 64GB variant is at Rs 24,999 and will go on sale on August 11. The company has promised that this year their stock inventory is way more than the previous time, and is confident that most interested buyers will purchase the smartphone without much hassle. General Manager for OnePlus India Vikas Agarwal said that India is among the company’s top three markets and is growing faster than any other country. The company has managed to sell 250,000 units of the OnePlus One since its arrival in India in December last year, and is aiming to sell 1 million units by the end of this year.
“Since our launch, we have witnessed phenomenal response. In fact, India contributed to nearly 7 percent of our last year’s overall sale within just 1 month of operations; and in Q1 alone, over 40 percent of global sales came from India without any major marketing or promotional activities. Overall, we have sold over 250,000 units of OnePlus One/ recorded sales in excess of worth Rs 500 Cr through an online only sales channel in a very short span of time. Currently, India is among our top 3 markets and is growing faster than any other country. We expect to sell over one million devices during 2015,” he said.
Agarwal also told Economic Times that the company has plans to set up a manufacturing unit in India. He said that many tech companies are eyeing India as a potential market due to recent conducive business environment. He said that OnePlus is also discussing this possibility with potential partners.
“Manufacturing in India seems to be the next in thing! Well, with the revised duty structure, local manufacturing has become more of a necessity; and we are already in advanced stages of discussion with potential partners. We expect to make a firm announcement soon once the terms of partnership are finalised,” Agarwal said.
