OnePlus had announced then that it will be launching a new ROM in the coming months. Earlier this month it released an early alpha build of its new ROM. The OxygenOS is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop update and offers near-stock Android experience.
We ve spent a lot of time thinking about what this ROM means to us and our fans. We realized that, like everything we do, our true goal is to make the product that we ourselves would want to use to make great technology more accessible for everyone, said Bradon Harwood, Marketing Specialist at OnePlus. When we designed the One, we went back to the drawing board, creating a smartphone that offers a bold, powerful, straight-forward experience. And, that s exactly what we plan to do with our ROM, he added.
OnePlus One handset was touted as the flagship killer smartphone last year. The phone packed in an impressive set of hardware, with a price tag of Rs 21,999. But a lot of credit for its success also goes to Cyanogen OS. It offers bloatware free environment with lots of customization features and an immense support for developers. It will be a major challenge for OnePlus to match up with Cyanogen OS sophistication and features offerings with OxygenOS.
In a blog post, a company representative noted that more information about the operating system will be announced on February 12.
