OnePlus might be preparing to trademark “Warp Charge” as possible replacement for “Dash Charge” globally. At the launch of OnePlus 6, the Chinese smartphone maker cautiously avoided use of the term ‘Dash Charge’ while describing the fast charging mechanism on the smartphone. Consequently, OnePlus also replaced the term “Dash Charge” with “charging rapidly” with the release of OxygenOS Open Betas for its devices. According to media reports, the company has also started calling Dash Charge cables as fast charge cables. OnePlus is said to be phasing out the term ‘Dash Charge” because of a rejected trademark application in the European Union. The Dash Charge from OnePlus was adjudged to be similar to Bragi’s ‘The Dash Pro’ and Amazon’s ‘Dash Replenishment’ buttons. As a result of these existing trademarks, OnePlus could not get trademark for ‘Dash Charge’ in the European Union. For OnePlus, the only alternative was to simply rebrand ‘Dash Charge’ to something else and may have now settled for the term “Warp Charge.”
A recent trademark filing from the company has been found in the EU that indicates OnePlus has settled on “Warp Charge” as the possible rebranding for the dash charge technology. The application for ‘Warp Charge’ was made at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and falls in the Nice class of 9. The Nice classification system gives general information about the type of goods or services that a company plans to cover under the trademark.
The Nice Class 9 covers “apparatus, instruments and cables for electricity” and the application by OnePlus is intended to represent “Data cables; power adapters; cell phone battery chargers; electrical adapters; batteries, electric; chargers for electric batteries; wireless chargers.”

The application for Warp Charge trademark in the EU is currently marked as ‘under examination’ by the authorities. OnePlus will get protection for the brand name only when this trademark application is accepted. If this application gets accepted then Star Trek fans at OnePlus would sure be the happiest.
