OnePlus co-founder calls out Sachin Bansal over Flipkart's OnePlus 3 for less than Rs 20,000 stunt

It's awkward. OnePlus co-founder says the company is exclusive with Amazon India thwarting Flipkart's advances.

Flipkart’s current relationship status with OnePlus seems to be complicated at the moment. The Indian online retailer today announced it would sell the OnePlus 3 for less than Rs 20,000 during its Big Shopping Days that starts from December 18, taking many by surprise. However, now OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has publicly called out Flipkart’s Chairman and former CEO, Sachin Bansal, over the stunt. It seems that either Flipkart went behind OnePlus’ back to secure One Plus 3 stocks or Pei didn’t get the memo.

OnePlus has always been an Amazon exclusive and Pei pointed out that the OnePlus 3 continues to be an Amazon India exclusive. With the launch of OnePlus 2, the company made its older smartphones available on other platforms including Flipkart and Snapdeal. Despite the launch of OnePlus 3T, its predecessor OnePlus 3, had been still exclusive to Amazon India. ALSO READ: OnePlus 3 to go on sale for under Rs 20,000 on Flipkart

The OnePlus 3 is currently priced at Rs 27,999. However, under Flipkart’s upcoming holiday season sales, the smartphone will be available for Rs 1_,999. The teaser image which is currently live on Flipkart further mentions that it will be available in limited quantities and only soft gold color variant of the OnePlus 3 will be on offer. Certain discounts are also available including an extra five percent discount (up to Rs 200) for Axis Bank Buzz credit card holders. Customers can also avail the smartphone on EMI as low as Rs 1,358 per month on using Axis Bank, Citibank, HDFC, HSBC, ICICI, IndusInd, Standard Chartered and State Bank of India credit cards.

Upon clicking the teaser image, it currently leads you to the product’s page where it is listed as ‘Coming Soon.’ At the time of reporting, there has been no direct response by Bansal on Pei’s tweet. BGR India reached out to Flipkart for clarification and the company has responded saying, “Flipkart is a marketplace which helps sellers connect with customers across the country. All our sellers are mandated to adhere to stringent guidelines. The prices and discounts for all our sales are decided by the participating sellers and brands.” Meanwhile, Pei has posted another tweet clarifying that the company would never betray consumers’ trust by dropping prices like this.

OnePlus has now officially issued a statement advising customers to purchase OnePlus products only through the official channels, which in this case is Amazon India. ” OnePlus is focused on creating premium flagship smartphones. We have an exclusive partnership with Amazon in India. We advise customers to purchase OnePlus products only through official channels as we cannot guarantee the authenticity of the products sold elsewhere,” the statement reads.

The OnePlus 3, which was launched earlier this year, features a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It also sports a 16-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0 with PDAF and OIS along with and an 8-megapixel camera up front. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth. On the software runs on Android Marshmallow 6.1 OxygenOS. It draws its juice from a 3,000mAh battery.
