OnePlus is gearing up to globally unveil its next-generation flagship OnePlus 3 smartphone tonight. Just like last year, the company will be conducting a launch event in virtual reality, and it has also developed branded virtual reality headsets ahead of the launch. Unlike last year’s Cardboard headset though, this year OnePlus has collaborated with ANTVR to develop a sleek looking headset. We have spent some time with OnePlus’ Loop VR headset, and here are our first impressions. Right from the moment you open the box, you realize that the new Loop VR headset is a far cry from last year’s Cardboard headset. In fact, the Loop VR’s design looks more similar to Samsung’s Gear VR headset, albeit with the OnePlus branding. Also Read - Poco F3 GT 5G vs OnePlus Nord 5G: Which one should you buy?
The Loop VR features a plastic body in a black and white color combination. The front features a slot to insert a smartphone with a display size between 5-inches and 6-inches. On the sides you will find the Loop VR logo along with the ANTVR branding. Just behind the slot are the two viewing lenses, which can be adjusted slightly to focus depending upon your eyesight.
Behind the plastic body is a foam, an insert for your nose and three straps to keep the headset attached to your head. The headset is a tad heavy, and the smartphone you insert into the slot only adds to the overall weight. While the Loop VR may look like the Samsung Gear VR, the functionalities are not similar at all. There is no micro-USB cable to connect to the smartphone. In fact there are no buttons on the Loop VR at all, and the headset is purely to view VR content.
Speaking of VR content, OnePlus has also developed OnePlus 3 launch: The Loop app for the smartphone launch. But the headset works with all virtual reality apps. The only issue here is you can’t control anything via the headset, and you will have to first fire up the app or game and then insert the smartphone into the headset.
So in essence OnePlus’ Loop VR is a much better version of last year’s Cardboard VR. With no buttons, it can get a tad frustrating to control apps. But if you are looking for a headset that can be used to watch VR videos, the Loop VR is quite convenient and comfortable.
The OnePlus 3 will be unveiled tonight at 10:00PM IST via The Loop app. Earlier today, details of the OnePlus 3 were revealed on a newspaper advertisement. The flagship smartphone is priced at Rs 27,999 and it will be on sale exclusively on Amazon India.
