The critically-acclaimed OnePlus One handset is all set to arrive in India. Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus had previously announced that it will be selling the device in the country on an invite-only system, and now it has detailed the pricing information as well. In a statement to the Indian Expess, the company said the 64GB variant of the phone will launch with a price tag of less than Rs 25,000.
Often called the flagship killer phone, the OnePlus One carries a premium look while packing top-notch set of hardware. Besides that, there is one more reason the phone is popular for: scarce availability. However, the company recently assured that it will ship enough handsets in India. “As with our current launch countries, Indian users will be able to purchase the One with an India specific invite,” Vikas Agarwal, who has been hired as OnePlus India GM, wrote on the forum.
The company is expected to launch the phone in India in December. It is also looking at local partners to make the process and availability easier and more convenient to the users. “Globally, our margins are exceedingly slim and this will also be true for India. There is a cost of doing business overseas but we will still honor our original business model. Right now, we can say that the 64GB One will sell for less than RS 25,000.”
The company first hinted about its intentions to enter the Indian market in July earlier this year. A month later, it posted a job opening for a general manager in India. The company recently hired Vikas Agarwal for that position. A report from earlier this month said that the company will be launching the device in December.
In terms of hardware specification, the OnePlus One comes with a 5.5-inch display with 1080p screen resolution. Underneath the device sits a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It packs a 3,100mAh battery to keep the device running. On the camera front, it has a 13-megapixel shooter at the back and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. The phone runs on the CyanogenMod ROM CM11s with several customized features.
