OnePlus One vs Xiaomi Mi 4: 2014 flagship devices compared

The Internet has been abuzz about the potential arrival of the OnePlus One in India. The “flagship killer” as it is also known, offers a tempting combination of high-end specs at ridiculously low price. It is however not the only one offering such a combination and it will have to face some competition from Xiaomi’s latest flagship device, the Mi 4. Let’s see how the smartphones fare when compared in a specification comparison. Also Read - Android 12 update is now available for OnePlus 9, 9 Pro users: How to install it

Not surprisingly, both the devices flaunt full HD displays. They are however differentiated by the size — the One features a 5.5-inch display, while the Mi 4 features a 5-inch display. This difference in size also affects the pixel density. The One’s display has a pixel density of 401ppi, while the Mi 4 has a pixel density of 441ppi.

There is no dearth of power here, and both devices are evenly matched in this department. They are powered by a Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz. The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM.

Neither of the devices features a microSD card slot to expand the internal memory. They are however available in two different storage variants — 16GB and 64GB.

The One and the Mi 4 both feature 13-megapixel rear cameras with auto focus, and dual-LED flash. Both the devices are also a selfie lover’s delight, with the One featuring a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and the Mi 4 featuring an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

The similarities continue in this department too, with the devices featuring batteries bigger than 3,000mAh. The One has a 3,100mAh battery, while the Mi 4 has a 3,080mAh unit.

This is one department that differentiates the two smartphones. The Mi 4 runs on Android 4.4.3 KitKat wrapped under the company’s MIUI. The OnePlus One, on the other hand, runs on CyanogenMod 11S OS based on Android KitKat.

Both the smartphones then are quite evenly matched, and it will be difficult to choose between the two. The Xiaomi Mi 4 is priced at $324 (Rs 19,480 approximately) for the 16GB variant and $389 (Rs 23,400 approximately) for the 64GB variant, while the OnePlus One is priced at $299 (Rs 17,970 approximately) for the 16GB variant and $349 (Rs 20,980 approximately) for the 64GB variant. We will however reserve our judgment on which phone is better once we have reviewed both the devices.
