OnePlus 5 is due for its launch in around 10 days and the hype initiated by OnePlus continues to ‘Never Settle.’ However, amidst all the excitement and preparations, the Chinese manufacturer is being criticized for one of the most important aspects of the upcoming smartphone, the design. The teaser image confirmed dual camera setup on the rear panel with antenna bands running across the top edge. Also, the dual camera setup is a horizontally aligned along the unibody design of the OnePlus 5 smartphone. While OnePlus would have expected a positive response about the design, they ended up facing the heat of criticism as fans find themselves disappointed of the alleged iPhone 7 Plus-like design. Defending the design and aesthetics of OnePlus 5, the company’s Product Manager took to Weibo stating that a flat image does not depict or convey how the actual device will feel in hand and that is why critics need to wait for getting hands on the phone first. Primarily, flat or 2D images do not do justice to the actual curves, built and ergonomics of the phone. One Plus CEO Pete Lau also backed the product manager’s opinion and also shared them on his official Weibo account. The manager also mentioned how OnePlus 3T was considered to be ugly and bad on the basis of TENNA images leaked ahead of the official launch. It was only when the smartphone was launched and fans got their hands on with the flagship last year, then they felt the actual built and were left impressed with the design of it. He states the initial images of the final design of the OnePlus 5 don’t reflect the actual workmanship. As far as the horizontally aligned dual rear camera setup on the smartphone is concerned, the manager acknowledges it by stating that it was a choice between cutting down a camera component or increasing the height of the camera module. He also mentioned in his post that initially, people called the camera bulge on the iPhone 7 Plus as ugly, but once they got the phone in hands, they appreciated it.
