OnePlus has rolled out new open beta software updates for its older phones, the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, and OnePlus 5T. The updates for the open beta program started rolling out on May 29, and will gradually reach all users with compatible devices that are on the open beta program. Of particular note is the fact that even the OnePlus 3 – launched two years ago in June 2016 – continues to receive software support.

Depending on which phone you’re using, the Open Beta version and software will be different. The OnePlus 5T is receiving the update for Open Beta version 9, the OnePlus 5 gets Open Beta 11, the OnePlus 3T is on Open Beta 28, and the OnePlus 3 is on Open Beta 37. If you’re using the OnePlus 5 or 5T, notable changes include the ability to disable peek notifications in DND, and reading modes, optimized PIN code confirmation, optimized power consumption on standby, the ability to manage parallel app data in the file manager and general UI improvements.

On the OnePlus 3 and 3T, changes are focused around bug fixes, stability improvements, and UI optimizations. Additionally, a new camera UI design is being rolled out for the older devices. The OnePlus 3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, while the OnePlus 3T runs on the slightly tweaked Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC.

As always, it’s important to remind users that Open Beta software isn’t as stable and trouble-free as stable software, and getting onto the Open Beta program itself involves somewhat complex procedures that could brick your phone if not done correctly. Attempt this only if you know what you’re doing, and want to try out the latest software while assuming the risks involved in it.
