Not content with just the OnePlus 2, which was announced last week and goes on sale on August 11, OnePlus is planning to launch yet another smartphone towards the end of the year.
The company has received around a million registrations in less than 72 hours, and it looks to sell 3-5 million smartphones this year. While these numbers look great for the two-year-old startup, the company has no plans of settling down this year with just the launch of the OnePlus 2.
Co-founder Carl Pei told USA Today that OnePlus is planning to launch another smartphone around Christmas this year. He didn’t reveal much about the smartphone, but confirmed that it is coming before the end of the year.
“There’s going to be a second phone this year, before the end of the year. Hopefully for Christmas. When I saw the prototype for that phone I was like ‘holy s— that’s going to be my daily driver’ but then when the OnePlus 2 production version came out it’s also super nice, so its really hard to decide now what to use,” Pei said.
He spoke at length about their business model as well, and how the core team came about with starting the company. The company’s core strategy is to make a very good Android smartphone, just like how Apple does for its iPhone. “We just wanted to make the best Android phone, and put as much care into the product as Apple puts into their products,” he added.
OnePlus plans on initially launching the 64GB variant, which will go on sale via Amazon India with a price tag of Rs 24,999. It will then launch a 16GB variant on a later date, with a price tag of Rs 22,999.
