Just hours after OnePlus claimed that it will be the first company to launch a flagship smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the company has back-tracked its statement. The company made this claim on stage at the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2018 in Hawaii and attributed this to a mistake in translation and the person who made the presentation. Something which is mind-boggling on its part considering how big and high profile the stage was. For context, the company had initially claimed that it will the first company to launch a smartphone with Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC.

A OnePlus representative confirmed this while speaking to Engadget adding that this was because of miscommunication. To clarify, the representative added that in the Chinese versions of the slide, the company CEO Pete Lau made for the announcement stated that OnePlus will be “among the first” to launch a smartphone with the said SoC instead of the definitive “First to feature” that could be seen in the English version of the slides on the large screen behind Lau. The person who made the English slides “was not a native English speaker” according to the report.

As noted by the report, the problem runs deep as Lau confirmed that the company will be the first to launch a Snapdragon 855-equipped flagship smartphone in the market on multiple occasions during an interview. This marks a serious mistake that must have caused embarrassment for the company as well as a disappointment among the fans.

In addition to this, the company also claimed that it will be the first smartphone maker to bring a 5G-enabled smartphone to the European Market. The company has teamed up with EE, a European telecom operator.
