We learnt yesterday that OnePlus is working on yet another smartphone that it plans to launch in December this year. Predictably, when OnePlus conducted its post launch Reddit AMA, a lot of questions were thrown at them asking for more details about the smartphone. The company didn’t give out any major details, but did confirm that the next smartphone is indeed in the making, and it won’t be called the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 2s.
This means that the company is working on a whole new smartphone in possibly a new price category, and it definitely won’t be a OnePlus 2 upgrade. When a Redditor asked for more details about the new project, one of OnePlus’ employee confirmed that another phone is coming but that “we can only tell you that this is not going to be the OnePlus 3 nor a OnePlus 2s.”
The AMA was filled with disappointed fans questioning why the OnePlus 2 lacks NFC, wireless charging and quick charging. OnePlus’ response was as diplomatic as it could get.
We’ve always said that never settle is true for us too. That means, if you’re not happy with the product you shouldn’t settle for ours either. With the OnePlus 2, we made the set of choices that we think delivers the best user experience, but because users are not the same they won’t all feel the same. That’s fine – we’ll work hard to make each iteration better than the last.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus is all set to begin selling the OnePlus 2 in India from August 11. Currently, only the 64GB is up for grabs for Rs 24,999, with the 16GB launching later in the year for Rs 22,999.
