OnePlus today launched a new, compact and affordable smartphone, called the OnePlus X. It’s a mid-range smartphone that comes with a slightly different design compared to other OnePlus smartphones. The OnePlus X will go heads on with the likes of Motorola’s Moto X Play and Xiaomi’s Mi 4. We compared these smartphones based on their price, specifications and features, and here’s how they fare. Price: In terms of pricing, all these smartphones are pretty closely matched. The OnePlus X is priced at Rs 16,999 and Rs 22,999 for Onyx finish and limited edition Ceramic finish, respectively. The Motorola Moto X Play is priced at Rs 18,499 for 16GB variant and Rs 19,999 for 32GB variant, the Xiaomi Mi 4 is priced at Rs 14,999 and Rs 17,999 for the 16GB and 64GB variants, respectively. The Moto X Play is available via Flipkart whereas the Xiaomi Mi 4 is available via Flipkart, Snapdeal, Amazon India and via Xiaomi’s online store. Specifications and features: The OnePlus X and Xiaomi Mi 4 pack a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display covered with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, whereas the Moto X Play comes with a slightly larger 5.5-inch full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
Under the hood, both the OnePlus X and Xiaomi Mi 4 are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor and paired with 3GB of RAM. On the other hand, the Moto X Play is powered by Qualcomm’s 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and paired with 2GB of RAM.
On the storage front, the OnePlus X comes with 16GB of on-board storage, Mi 4 comes with 16GB and 64GB of on-board storage, whereas the Moto X Play comes with 16GB and 32GB on-board storage. While the OnePlus X and Moto X Play support expandable storage via microSD card, the Mi 4 doesn’t.
On the photography front, the OnePlus X and Mi 4 sport a 13-megapixel primary camera with LED flash, whereas the Moto X Play comes with a higher resolution 21-megapixel sensor with LED flash. The front-facing selfie camera on the OnePlus X is 8-megapixel unit, whereas the one on the Moto X Play and the Mi 4 is a 5-megapixel unit. On paper, the Moto X Play camera seems to have slight edge, but we will reserve our judgment until we review them.
The OnePlus X comes with a 2,525mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2, the Moto X Play comes with a 3,630mAh battery which Motorola claims is good enough to offer up to 48 hours of mixed usage, whereas the Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with a 3,080mAh battery.
On the software front, the OnePlus X comes with Oxygen OS based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the Moto X Play comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, whereas the Mi 4 comes with MIUI 7 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
All three smartphones come with similar set of connectivity features, such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth and GPS. While the Mi 4 has a single SIM, the OnePlus X and Moto X Play support dual SIM card slots.
The three smartphones are quite closely matched, and it is difficult to choose the best among them on paper. We will reserve our judgment until we have reviewed the three smartphones.
