Back in 2015, OnePlus launched the OnePlus X smartphone, which was an affordable option as compared to the then-flagships, OnePlus One and OnePlus 2. Now, lately some new rumors started to whirl up that the company is working on a certain OnePlus X2, which would launch this year. However, punching that rumor to dust, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei today dismissed the story with a simple nope . In the same thread Pei also tweeted, “Fake news is a huge threat to human civilization. Let’s all do our part in stopping it.”
The rumors of the OnePlus X2 was especially sketchy because the company had already confirmed back in 2016 that the OnePlus X will not see a successor. The primary reason behind that decision was linked to the fact that OnePlus X mostly met with negative reviews. The phone failed to compete against the much populated low-end segment.
At this moment, the smartphone we are looking forward to from the company is the OnePlus 6.
In a recent interview, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be launching sometime in the late second quarter of 2018. While a June launch time frame is not new, this is the first time the company has spoken about its flagship device for the year. Lau also confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will be powered by Qualcomm s latest Snapdragon 845 Soc.
OnePlus 6 leaks are few and far between so far. But based on what we have come across so far, the OnePlus 6 is expected to feature a much-improved facial recognition technology. This feature will be highly inspired from the Apple iPhone X. Another report hinted at an under-display fingerprint sensor on the upcoming device. This could mean that OnePlus will be able to go for a full-screen display with minimum bezels.
