Earlier this week, Oppo launched a new budget smartphone in India called the A3s. The smartphone comes with decent set of specifications, a glass back, dual rear cameras, and a notched display. It also ditches the fingerprint scanner and relies on Face Unlock technology instead. We compared the Oppo A3s with its closest competitors, the Moto E5 Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, and here s how it fares. The Oppo A3s is priced at Rs 10,990, and is available to purchase from Amazon India, Flipkart, Paytm and offline retail shops. The Redmi Note 5 prices start at Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage model, and Rs 11,999 for the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage model. Both the Asus and Xiaomi smartphones are available to purchase from Flipkart. The Redmi Note 5 is also available to purchase from mi.com and Mi Home stores. Lastly, the Moto E5 Plus is priced at Rs 11,999 and is available to purchase from Amazon India and Moto Hub stores.

Display and battery
All four smartphones feature tall displays with slim bezels on the sides. The Redmi Note 5 and the Zenfone Max Pro M1 flaunt a 5.99-inch full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and resolution of 2160 1080pixels. The Oppo A3s comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a notch that houses a front camera, earpiece and sensors. It has an aspect ratio of 19:9 and resolution of 1520x720pixels resolution. Lastly, the Moto E5 Plus has a 6-inch HD+ 1440 720pixels display and 18:9 aspect ratio.
In terms of battery, both the Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Moto E5 Plus feature a 5,000mAh battery, whereas the Oppo A3s features a 4,230mAh battery. The Redmi Note 5 has the smallest battery capacity of the four smartphones 4,000mAh
Chipset, RAM and storage
The Oppo A3s is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage, which is expandable via microSD card. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 is powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC with 3GB/4GB RAM, and 32GB/64GB storage options. A dedicated microSD card slot is also present for further storage expansion. Moto E5 Plus, on the other hand, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and a dedicated microSD card slot. Lastly, the Redmi Note 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage, which is expandable using a microSD card.
In the photography department, the Oppo A3s comes with dual rear cameras which includes a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor, and an 8-megapixel front camera with AI beauty mode. The Zenfone Max Pro M1 features a dual-camera setup comprising of a 13-megapixel primary sensor with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor for depth measurement. It also features an 8-megapixel camera at the front with an LED flash.
The Moto E5 Plus features a single 12-megapixel camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera with an LED flash. Lastly, the Redmi Note 5 comes with a single 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper. All four smartphones support face unlock feature. The Moto E5, Redmi Note 5 and Zenfone Max Pro M1 also features a fingerprint sensor placed at the back.
Connectivity and OS
In terms of connectivity, all four smartphones feature dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth, 4G LTE with VoLTE, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11n. The Moto E5 Plus, Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Oppo A3s run Android Oreo OS, whereas Oreo update for the Redmi Note 5 will be rolled out soon.
