Oppo has quietly added another smartphone to its portfolio. Called A79, the smartphone boasts an 18:9 display as one of its prime features. There are design similarities between the Oppo A79 and the Oppo R11s. However, there are differences in terms of specifications.
The Oppo A79 is listed on the company’s Chinese website at a price of 2,399 CNY (Rs 23,500 approximately). It is expected to go on sales in home country starting December 1. It is unclear whether the smartphone will make it to other countries such as India, where the similarly specced Oppo F5 is a popular device.
Oppo A79 features a massive 6-inch OLED screen offering a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels with trimmed bezels for the new-age 18:9 aspect ratio. While there is no dual-camera setup on the phone, a brighter aperture is present to ensure better shots in low-light conditions.

The Oppo A79 features a unibody design with a rear fingerprint sensor. The U-Type antenna lines blend with the overall aesthetics. The phone is available in color choices of champagne and black.
Under the hood, Oppo A79 runs MediaTek Helio P23 SoC clocked 2.5GHz is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via microSD card. For optics, there’s a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. Up front, there’s a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture.
The phone is fueled by a 3,000mAh battery with support for VOOC charging format. On the software front, the A79 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2 layered atop.
