Last month, Oppo launched the A83 smartphone in China. According to 91mobile, the smartphone is now all set to make its entry into India next week. The Chinese company is reportedly hosting an event in India on January 17, where it will launch the A83 smartphone. The report further mentions that the smartphone will be priced under Rs 15,000 in India. Among the talking points on the Oppo A83 is the face unlock feature. The company has ditched the fingerprint sensor in favor of the new technology. The facial recognition technology on the A83 uses 128 unique feature points of the user s face. Oppo claims that the Face Unlock feature can unlock the smartphone within 0.18 seconds. Oppo A83 specifications and features
The Oppo A83 features a 5.7-inch LCD display running at HD+ (720 1440 pixels) resolution. Under the hood is an octa-core SoC clocked at 2.5GHz. It is paired with 4GB of RAM, and 32GB onboard storage, which can further be expended up to 256GB via microSD card.
In the photography department, the smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies, video calling and Face Unlock feature. In terms of connectivity, you get dual-SIM card support with 4G LTE and VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi.
Armed with a 3,090mAh battery, the smartphone misses out of fast charging feature. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 7.1 Nougat OS with Color OS 3.2 custom skin on top.
If launched under Rs 15,000, the Oppo A83 will face tough competition from the likes of Xiaomi Mi A1 and Honor 7X. The Mi A1, priced at Rs 12,999, comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD display. Under the hood is Qualcomm s octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Mi A1 sports dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
On the other hand, the Honor 7X features a 5.93-inch full HD+ resolution display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. There is also a 2.5D glass on top. Under the hood is a Kirin 659 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone sports a dual-camera setup with a combination of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling.
