Oppo and Dolby sign strategic intellectual property partnership

Oppo will leverage Dolby's audio technologies as part of this IP partnership

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is known for making mobile devices with state of the art selfie cameras. Now, it may soon add audio to one of the core features of its smartphones. Dolby Laboratories announced that it has signed a strategic intellectual property (IP) partnership with OPPO.

The strategic partnership with Dolby Laboratories will enable Oppo to integrate Dolby’s High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HEAAC) amd JPEG-HDR technologies. With the partnership, Oppo will transform its products and services by leveraging Dolby’s research and engineering available through intellectual property (IP).

These technologies are often made available to partners through licensing programs and create a level-playing field across industries. With the deal, Dolby gains a partner with significant growth in smartphone space while Oppo gains access to technology that will help differentiate its products.
