Earlier today, Oppo launched a new smartphone in India called F5. Successor to the Oppo F3, the new smartphone features an edge-to-edge display and a 20-megapixel front camera powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance your selfies. The Oppo F5 is offered in two storage variants 4GB RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 19,990, whereas the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage variant is priced at Rs 24,990. The smartphone can be pre-ordered starting today and will go on sale starting November 9. After spending some time with the smartphone, here are my first impressions. Edge-to-edge display is the theme of the year and we have seen it right from mid-range smartphones such as Micromax Canvas Infinity and LG Q6, to high-end smartphones such as Google Pixle 2 XL, Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 and the Apple iPhone X. Oppo doesn t want to be lost in the race, and the F5 is the company s first smartphone to feature an edge-to-edge display. Also Read - Best wearable gift ideas under Rs 5,000 for Father's Day 2021
You get a 6-inch display running at full HD resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Despite having such as large display, the Oppo F5 still feels compact, and is the same size as last the F3 that featured a 5.5-inch display. The display is bright enough for proper visibility in direct sunlight, but the color reproduction could ve been a bit more punchy. But I will reserve my final judgment till for a more in-depth review of the smartphone. AI Powered front-camera
The second big change coming is the AI powered 20-megapixel front camera. Oppo says that the AI software can recognize your age, gender, skin type and skin tone to bring the photogenic best out of you. It is also optimized to enhance the symmetry between features such as your jawline, cheekbones, nose and eyes for a perfectly natural and refined selfie. There is also a portrait mode for selfies that adds DSLR-like bokeh-effects. I did click a few photos (see below) using both the depth effect and without depth effect. Initial impressions about the camera are pretty good. But we will click more photos in different lighting conditions to see how it performs.

Decent set of specifications
The Oppo F5 is powered by a MediaTek MT6763T octa-core SoC paired with Mali G71 GPU for graphics. The smartphone is armed with a 3,200mAh battery, and connectivity options on the smartphone include dual-SIM card support, 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi. On the software front, it runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2 on top. ALSO READ: Oppo F3 Review: The one for your selfies and groupfies
The sleek and slim design, good front and rear cameras and an edge-to-edge display are a few things that go in favor of the Oppo F5. The company is focusing on the youth who want to capture better selfies in any lighting conditions. The addition of AI to the front camera and bokeh mode using a single camera setup sounds pretty interesting.
Even the price point is good considering the features you get on the smartphone, along with online and offline availability. We will be thoroughly testing the smartphone over the next few days before we come up with our review. So stay tuned for that.
